In This Episode…

Today we’re joined by Jess who explores the Threads app – a new Twitter competitor from Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram. She looks at how this new platform will work for marketers, and what the team at Thinkplus predict for the app’s future.

Threads gained 10 million users within seven hours of its launch and 100 million within a week.

It’s similar to Twitter but you need to have an Instagram account to sign up.

But, it doesn’t have the same user base as Twitter. At least, not yet. Many users have joined through Instagram prompts but might not be familiar with similar platforms.

Marketers should watch how people use Threads before copying and pasting their Twitter strategies, as the audience and the way people use the platform are likely to be different to Twitter.

While Threads offers new opportunities, there are some dangers.

  • Initial hype might fade, meaning decreased activity.
  • Brands shouldn’t abandon Twitter in case their audience doesn’t move to Threads.

Marketers should approach Threads with measured excitement.

Create an account, test the platform, and see if you think it’s a long-term platform for your business.
